Season so far report card – top 6

Third of the season report – top 6

Now that we are nearly a third of the way through the premier league season here is our report so far!

Manchester United – B – for Effort and A for Attainment
Unable to perform unless a goal down or under pressure sometimes prone to lack of concentration. However Man Utd are sat at the top of the premiership with 8 wins out of last 10 matches and have won a record 18 points from losing positions so far this season. Not bad for a team that is not in the richest vain of form and doesn’t know what its best starting line up is. Ferguson has never been shy to rebuild a squad and it looks like the current transition between Scholes & Giggs and the new breed is paying off. To the annoyance of Arsenal fans Van Persie picked up this season where he left off last year!

Manchester City- B for Effort and A for Attainment
Out of the Champions league and not firing on all cylinders in the premiership. On the plus side they remain unbeaten in the league  this year and only trailing united by a single point. It is amazing to think that Mancini is still under some pressure even though the team remain in touch and unbeaten. Will expect much better performances during the business end of the season, a lot of potential but needs to apply themselves!

West Brom – A+ for Effort and A+ for Attainment
With the departure of Hodgson for the England job many fans thought West Brom would struggle this year and at best secure survival with 5 games to spare. West Brom are sitting pretty in third and there performances back this up. Putting Chelsea to the sword 10 days ago shows this isn’t a fluke or because of an easy set of fixtures. Will be interesting to see how they fair for the rest of the season and if they can keep the good work up, and the form of Myhill and Long will be key to his.

Chelsea – B for Effort and B for Attainment
With much of the focus on off field distractions (Terry, Clattenburg, Di Matteo, etc etc) , Chelsea have not turned up so far this year and are on the threshold of being the first ever champions to not make it through the group stage. However Di Matteo made some good signings in the summer with Oscar and Mata both making good early impressions, and helping hide Torres current woes.  The next 18 months could be a transitional time for Chelsea with the probable lose of Cole and Lampard at the end of the season.

Everton – A for Effort and A for Attainment
It must be a nightmare for Everton fans as generally they are the slowest team out of the blocks each season, and around Christmas the inevitable questions about relegation are asked only for them to turn things round and finish comfortably in the upper half of the table. This year it seems different with the peerless Feliani, Osman and Baines providing a good foundation for the team to build on in the later stages of the season. In the past 3 weeks they have slightly gone of the boil but if it wasn’t for Bassong 90th minute equaliser that would have been forgotten.

Arsenal – B for Effort and C for attainment
Last year Arsenal had a horrific start of the season losing Fabregas and Nasri and then the hammering by Man utd at Old Trafford. With some astute signings during the summer most Arsenal fans thought it could not be worse than last year….they were wrong. Arsenal have had the worst start to a season in 30 years and are 1 point worse off than last year. a 5-2 crushing of their north London neighbours should have kicked started there season but a bore draw against Villa shows there is more work to be done. The away fans made there feelings known and for the first time publicly questioned Wenger’s selections. On the plus side Cazorla looks to be one of he summers bes signings and with Wilshere back in the squad hopefully things will improve. On a side note disappointing to once again see the poenial of Diaby against Liverpool and then him suffer another setback through injury.
